Commentary

Fresh white grass root (Bai-mao-gen) stands as the primary (chief) herb; cold and sweet in character, its action follows the Lung, Stomach, Bladder meridians, working chiefly to clear heat and stop bleeding. Fresh corn silk (Yu-mi-xu) fills the deputy position, sweet, bland-neutral in property, acting through the Bladder, Liver, Gallbladder meridians to promote urination and drain damp-heat. Without a separate harmonizing herb, the herbal tea formula balance is achieved through the mutual tempering of its active ingredients. Working as one, the formula clear heat and promote diuresis, calm the liver and lower blood pressure, cool the blood and stop bleeding, thereby targeting the urinary tract infection pattern that underlies the complaint.
