Commentary
Rhubarb (Da-huang) holds the chief position in this formula; cold and bitter in character, it channels into the Spleen, Stomach, Large Intestine, Liver, Heart meridians, working chiefly to purge heat, drain accumulation, cool blood and resolve stasis. Honey (Feng-mi) rounds out the formula as the harmonizing herb, working to moisten the lung and harmonize the formula and moderate the overall properties. Taken together these herbs clear heat, stop bleeding, increases platelet count, in keeping with the blood and heat pattern.
