Drug Formulation

Authentic Maoshan Atractylodes (select plump and large specimens, 24 liang; soak in rice washing water for 73 nights, changing the water once daily; remove the skin; slice into pieces 2–3 fen thick; sun-dry) 4 liang; Authentic Guangdong Dried Tangerine Peel (5 liang; remove the membrane and stalk; slice into pieces; dry in an oven) 4 liang;Purple, Fleshy Magnolia Bark 12 liang (remove coarse bark, mix with ginger juice, and stir-fry), Genuine Fresh, Fleshy Xianmao (4 liang; soak in clean water, scrape off the skin with a bamboo knife, slice into 2 fen-thick pieces with a copper knife, soak in rice wash water, remove the red sap, and dry) 2 liang, Unsweetened Apricot Kernels (3 liang; remove skin and tips, clean and dry) 2 liang,Fresh Dipsacus asper (3 jin; yellow-black skin removed with a bamboo knife, sliced 2 fen thick with a copper knife, and dried) 2 liang, Northern Schisandra 2 liang, Goji berries 8 liang, Sichuan Fritillary Bulb 2 liang (core removed), Ginkgo nut meat 4 liang (boiled until tender, core removed), Balao flower 2 liang (mixed with water, steamed, and pounded.Grind both the dry and wet parts of Schisandra into a paste, dry in the sun, and grind into a powder together with the previous herbs), 4 liang of Huai Dang Gui with stems (simmered in wine until soft, then pounded into a paste), 1 jin of red date flesh (boiled just before use, peeled and pitted, then pounded), 4 liang of walnut meat (pounded into a very fine powder just before use), 1 jin of lotus seed meat (crushed, pitted, lightly roasted, then ground into a powder).

Processing

Divide the first six ingredients into four batches: one mixed with human milk, one with ginger juice, one with a child’s urine, and one with aged wine. Let them sit overnight, then sun-dry and grind into a fine powder; combine with the following ingredients. Take one male pig’s stomach; ensure it has not come into contact with water. Use a knife to make a small incision, drain out the waste, and wash thoroughly with wine until no foul odor remains.Place 2–3 liang of lotus seed powder and 1 jin of aged wine inside, sew it shut with thread, then simmer in wine until extremely tender. Pound the previous ingredients together with a thousand strokes until they form a paste; take an appropriate amount, add the pig’s stomach broth and jujube pulp, and shape into pills the size of a Paulownia seed.
