Processing

Use a new earthenware jar with a capacity of 1 dou and 3 sheng. Divide the aforementioned medicinal ingredients into three separate portions by type, and layer them one by one into the jar. Once all the ingredients are layered, cover the jar’s opening with a new piece of earthenware tile. Cut a small hole in the center of the lid to allow smoke to escape.Seal the pot’s perimeter with a mixture of fine yellow clay and paper-reinforced mud. Once dry, place it in a clean room and heat it slowly from all sides using a charcoal fire. Ensure the fire is properly controlled; when the smoke has completely dissipated, remove the fire, seal the vent, and continue baking with yellow clay for 1–2 nights. After it has cooled, remove the medicine—its color will resemble a raven’s feather—and grind it into a fine powder in a porcelain vessel, taking care to avoid contact with iron; Then add 1 liang each of Cimicifuga and Angelica dahurica, ground into a fine powder, mix them evenly into the mixture, store in a porcelain container, and seal tightly. Gradually take out about one spoonful at a time and store it in a small porcelain container.
