Drug Formulation

1 jin of Xuanjing Stone (coarsely ground), 1 jin of Gui Fu Talc (coarsely ground), 10 liang of Coptis, 10 liang of Qinpi (finely sliced), 10 liang of Gentiana, 10 liang of Melia azedarach root, 10 liang of Gallnut, 5 liang of Angelica sinensis, 5 liang of Red Peony Root, 5 liang of Gardenia, 5 liang of Apricot Kernel,5 liang of Ruiren (crushed), 2 jin of Sophora japonica branches (cut into pieces about 3 cun long), and 2 jin of willow branches (cut into pieces about 3 cun long).

Processing

For the seven ingredients from Xuanjing Stone to Gallnut, place 2 large barrels of water in a large pot, decoct until reduced by half, remove the dregs, strain through fine raw silk, and store in porcelain vessels; for the seven ingredients from Angelica to Willow Twigs, also use 2 barrels of water, decoct until reduced by half, remove the dregs, strain through fine raw silk, and store in porcelain vessels;5 jin of white sand honey: First, lightly grease the pot with a small amount of oil and simmer the honey over low heat until it turns purple. Combine the decoctions from the previous two steps with the honey and bring to a boil several times. Strain again through raw silk, then reduce the mixture by half. Transfer to a copper pot, add 5 liang of borax,5 large pig gallbladders. Simmer over low heat, stirring constantly with an iron spatula until it becomes a thin paste. Set aside 2 jin in a porcelain container overnight; add 6 qian of high-quality camphor (finely ground) to the mixture and stir until evenly blended, then seal tightly with oiled paper and let sit overnight.

Apply a pea-sized amount to the inner corner of the eye; repeat several times at short intervals.
