Drug Formulation

Coptis rhizome (roasted until cracked, peel and pith removed) 1 fen; Ephedra (roots and nodes removed, decocted first, foam skimmed off, then roasted for use) 1.5 liang; Aconite root (roasted until cracked, peel and pith removed) 1 fen; Angelica pubescens (root tip removed) 1 liang; Ligusticum root 1 liang; Gentiana root (stems and soil removed) 1 liang;Magnetite (cracked, heated until red-hot, quenched in vinegar 10 times, rinsed, and used) 3 liang, Akebia stem 1 liang, Cornus officinalis 1 liang, Chinese yam 1 liang, Eucommia bark (coarse bark removed, chopped) 1.5 liang, Phellodendron bark 1.5 liang, Licorice root (roasted) 1 liang, Cinnamon bark (coarse bark removed) 1 liang, Saposhnikovia root (branches removed) 0.5 liang.

Processing

Coarsely crush the ingredients until they are about the size of sesame or mung beans.

Instructions for Use

Take 15 qian of the mixture per dose, add 4 zhan of water and 1 fen of sliced ginger, and decoct until reduced to 2 zhan. Strain out the residue and divide the decoction into three doses to be taken warm: one in the morning and two in the evening. After taking this decoction, keep the affected area warm to induce a mild sweat, and take care to avoid exposure to cold winds.
