Drug Formulation

Mugwort leaves (kneaded until softened) 1 liang, arsenic trioxide (ground) 1 liang, mercury (ground together with realgar) 1 liang, talcum powder (ground) 1 liang, sulfur (ground) 1 liang, cinnabar (ground) 1 liang, asafoetida (dissolved in wine, strained to remove grit, mixed with flour into cakes, and roasted) 1 liang,Aconite Root (roasted until cracked, peel and pith removed, then pounded) 1 liang, Realgar (finely ground; add mercury, a drop of vinegar, and grind again until all particles are gone; only then add talcum powder, arsenic trioxide, sulfur, and cinnabar to grind together) 1 liang, Musk (ground) half a liang, Pig’s Tooth Soap Pod 1 jin (peel and seeds removed; ground separately into a powder).

Processing

Except for the mugwort leaves and soap pods, which are ground separately into a powder, combine all the remaining ingredients and grind them finely. Take 4 sheets of paper,first spread the mugwort, then sprinkle the soapberry powder, followed by the mixture of medicinal powders. Roll it up and cut it into pieces the size of a pancake. Place them in a bowl and burn them. Cover the bowl with a small wooden steamer, line the edges with cloth, sit above it for fumigation, and cover yourself tightly with a blanket to seal in the fumes, ensuring no steam escapes. If you feel hot and suffocated, lie face down.
