Drug Formulation

Ruiren (with skin and tip removed) 3 fen, Angelica sinensis root 6 fen, Licorice 6 fen, Fangfeng 8 fen, purified Coptis 2 qian (chopped to the size of a sesame seed; add 1 large bowl of water and decoct until reduced to half, then incorporate into the mixture).

Processing

Chop the ingredients into pieces the size of a sesame seed; separately grind the Ruiren seeds into a paste. Simmer them together until the mixture does not disperse when dropped into water. Add a small amount of honey (after skimming off the foam), and simmer briefly until done.

Instructions for Use

Instruct the patient to apply it with a calm mind until a slight pain is felt in the eye, 5–7 times a day; application before bedtime is particularly effective. This is called the “Hundred-Drops Ointment”; it is best to apply it frequently to ensure the medicinal properties are sustained.
