Drug Formulation

1 jin of soapberry (peeled and string removed; discard any worm-eaten pieces), 4 liang of table salt (calcined together with the soapberry), 4 liang of cyperus rhizome (cleaned, stir-fried, and dehaired), 4 liang of rock salt (ground), 4 liang of burdock seed (stir-fried), 1 liang of lotus pistil, 1 liang of patchouli, 1 liang of Eclipta prostrata,1 fen of musk (ground), 1 fen of borneol (ground) (one version omits Cyperus Rhizome).

Processing

First, coarsely chop the soapberry pods. Take two small earthenware bowls; drill three small holes in the bottom of each. In the lower bowl, layer one portion of soapberry pods and one portion of table salt. Place all 4 liang into the bowls, seal them tightly with clay, and calcine over a charcoal fire until the smoke turns blue. Remove and grind the mixture with the previous ingredients into a fine powder. Add musk and borneol, and grind them together into a fine powder.
