Drug Formulation

Areca nut 1 jin (First grinding: raw, ground to a fine powder; take the pure powder. Use 2 liang as the “mother” powder; grind the remaining 14 liang for the first time, sift through a fine sieve, level the mass, and sun-dry it), Phytolacca (Second grinding: i.e., the root of the camphor willow; the white variety may be used, but the red variety is lethal) 4 liang,Golden-haired Dogspine 4 liang, Guanzhong 4 liang (Mix the above 3 ingredients together, grind into an extremely fine powder, perform the first grading, sift through a Grade 2 sieve, level the mass, and sun-dry. In one formula, Guanzhong is omitted; otherwise, the parasites will emerge but not die), Sanling (Grade 3 powder: boiled in vinegar) 8 liang, E Zhu (boiled in vinegar) 8 liang,Blue Aquilaria 4 liang, Western Aquilaria 4 liang, Leiwan (simmered in vinegar) 2.5 liang, Southern Aquilaria 2 liang (Mix the above 6 ingredients together, grind into an extremely fine powder, sift through a No. 3 sieve, and collect the entire amount), Rhubarb 1 jin (Process as follows: chop coarsely, soak in wine, sun-dry, grind finely, collect the pure powder, sift through a No. 4 sieve, and sun-dry the entire amount),Black Pharbitis 1 jin (for the fifth ingredient: half raw, half roasted; grind into a fine powder; take the finest portion; sift through a five-grade sieve; collect the powder and dry in the sun). Processing

Prepare the above in five batches, separately grinding them into an extremely fine powder. It is essential to produce the “top-grade powder” five times. Then, use half a jin of Artemisia capillaris and 1 jin of large soapberry to prepare a decoction, strain it thoroughly,form into pills the size of mung beans using the decoction as the binder; after sun-drying, mix with 1 liang of ground cloves—or, alternatively, 1 liang of ground aloe vera, which is also excellent—bring the previously filtered decoction to a rolling boil, sprinkle it over the pills, and shake immediately until they become glossy; then take 2 liang of raw donkey-hide gelatin, melt it in the same decoction, sprinkle it over the pills, shake immediately until glossy, and sun-dry.

Instructions for Use

Adults should take 5 qian per dose; those of weaker constitution, 4 qian per dose. Take with clear tea at the fifth watch. Children should take half the adult dose. If the condition is mild, relief will be felt after one dose; if the root cause is deep-seated, another dose is required.

Note

This medicine is mild; it does not disturb the original yang vital energy and causes no adverse reactions. Pregnant women should not take it.
