Drug Formulation
1 black bull gallbladder, 1 liang of acacia seeds (roasted), 1 liang of gallnuts (roasted until charred, smoke removed), 5 qian of pomegranate peel (roasted), and 1 qian of white alum.

Processing
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder, fill the gallbladder with the mixture, and hang it to air-dry in the shade for 14 days. First, cast a lead jar; pour all the medicine from the gallbladder into the jar, remove the gallbladder membrane, then add 1 small cup of walnut oil, 3 qian of mulberry frost, and 1 fen of musk. Stir these into the medicine in the jar, seal the jar, and simmer in a double boiler for the duration of one incense stick before removing it.
Instructions for Use
Wash the mustache clean with soapy water. Wrap your fingers in pork neck skin, a chicken gizzard, or oiled paper, dip them in the mixture, and rub it onto the lower half of the mustache hairs—avoid getting too close to the roots—and it will naturally turn black as lacquer.
