Drug Formulation

Licorice 1 liang, Polygala 5 qian, Achyranthes (stem removed) 5 qian, Cistanche (scales removed) 5 qian, Tiger Bone (fried with butter) 5 qian, Sichuan Dipsacus (stem removed) 5 qian, Cnidium (thoroughly cleaned) 5 qian, Deer Antler (fried with butter) 5 qian,Asparagus root (core removed) 5 qian, raw Rehmannia root 5 qian, prepared Rehmannia root 5 qian, nutmeg (steamed with flour) 5 qian,Sichuan Melia Fruit (stir-fried until black) 5 qian, Ophiopogon Tuber (core removed) 5 qian, Purple-tipped Flower 5 qian, Trichosanthes Seed (shell removed) 5 qian, Apricot Kernel (skin and tip removed) 5 qian, Cassia Bark (bark removed) 5 qian, Large Aconite Root (skin removed) 5 qian, Eupatorium Herb 5 qian, Dodder Seed 5 qian, Golden Pheasant Oil 5 qian.

Processing

Decoct the above herbs in 1 jin 4 liang of genuine sesame oil until the mixture turns black; strain out the residue and decoct again until a drop of the liquid forms a bead when held up; add 8 liang of sifted realgar, stirring continuously with a willow twig until the mixture no longer disperses; then add realgar, dragon bone, sulfur, and cinnabar, and boil once more;then add frankincense, myrrh, musk, wood fragrant, opium, 2 pairs of seahorses, 2 pairs of stone swallows, 3 qian of agarwood, 2 qian of Yangqishi, 2 qian of toad venom, and 2 qian of cloves; grind these into a fine powder, then incorporate them into the ointment, stir thoroughly, remove from heat, and transfer to a porcelain container.

Instructions for Use

Alternatively, spread the paste on a piece of leather and apply it: use three patches on the lower abdomen, changing them every five days for a total of nine days. Regular alcohol consumption helps unblock the flow of qi in the Kidney Meridian; additionally, apply one coin-sized patch to the navel.
