Drug Formulation

1 jin of oil, 1.5 liang of Angelica sinensis, 1 liang of Angelica dahurica, 0.3 fen of Cinnamomum cassia bark, 1 liang of Ligusticum chuanxiong, 1 liang of Ligusticum wallichii, 0.3 fen of Asarum sieboldii, 1 liang of stibnite (finely ground), 3 liang of orpiment,1 fen of musk (finely ground), 1.5 liang of deer antler gelatin, 3 fen of beeswax, 1 liang of cinnabar (finely ground), 1 liang of salt flowers, 3 fen of talcum powder, and 3 fen of frankincense (finely ground).

Source

From *Shenghui*, Volume 63.

Processing

Take the above ingredients: first, take the oil and place it in a cauldron; heat until boiling. Finely chop the six ingredients—including Angelica sinensis—and add them to the oil. Simmer until Angelica dahurica turns a reddish-brown color; strain through cotton to remove the residue. Wipe the oil clean from the cauldron, then return the mixture to the cauldron. Simmer over low heat as before; add the beeswax and orpiment, stirring continuously with a willow wood spatula, until the mixture turns black. Next, add Mithra, deer antler glue, and salt flowers; then add talcum powder; followed by frankincense; and finally cinnabar, musk, and the other ingredients. Continue simmering and stirring over low heat until the mixture takes on a black luster. Immediately drip a small amount into water; if the consistency is just right—neither too hard nor too soft—the medicine is complete. Pour it into a metal mold and allow it to set and cool. Place the mold on a clean surface overnight, cover it with a cloth to remove any residual heat toxicity.

Benefits

For all types of boils and abscesses on the back that have ruptured and cause constant pain day and night.

Instructions for Use

For each application, spread the mixture on a piece of clean cloth and apply it to the affected area, changing the dressing twice daily.
