Drug Formulation

3 jin of sesame oil, 1 ball of yeast (add to the oil and boil until dissolved; then add the following herbs): 1.5 liang of Angelica sinensis, 1.5 liang of Astragalus membranaceus, 1.5 liang of Coptis chinensis, 1 liang of Phellodendron amurense, 1 liang of Rheum palmatum, 1 liang of Scutellaria baicalensis, 1 liang of Angelica dahurica, 1 liang of apricot kernels, 1 liang of Saposhnikovia divaricata, 1 liang of Schizonepeta tenuifolia, 1 liang of Notopterygium incisum, 1 liang of Dehua, 1 liang of Forsythia suspensa,Gardenia fruit 1 liang, Red Peony root 8 qian, Rehmannia root 8 qian, Bletilla root 8 qian, Honeysuckle 8 qian, Clematis vine 8 qian, Peach twigs 7 cun, Willow twigs 7 cun, Locust twigs 7 cun.

Processing

First, simmer the above herbs in oil until charred, until the mixture turns black; remove from heat, strain out the residue, and add 8 liang of sifted realgar, 5 liang of beeswax, and 2 liang of asphalt. Simmer together until the oil boils, then gradually add the strained mixture. The consistency should be such that a drop of water makes the mixture neither too soft nor too hard, and it should not stick to the hands. Add 6 qian of frankincense, 6 qian of myrrh, 5 qian of mercury oxide, and 3 qian of dragon’s blood. Set aside for use as a poultice.

Instructions for Use

For lesions that have already ruptured and are discharging pus, apply the ointment on oiled paper; if there is excessive pus, wipe it clean with silk, warm the paper slightly by the fire, and then reapply. Do not reuse it a third time; instead, prepare a new application. Once the lesion begins to heal, adjust the size of the application to fit the wound.
