Drug Formulation

1 female yellow chicken (prepare as for cooking; thoroughly pluck the feathers, ensuring no water comes into contact with the skin; make a small incision beneath the abdomen, remove the intestines and entrails, clean thoroughly, then reinsert the heart and liver for use), Sichuan pepper (remove the seeds and any closed pods) 1 fen, raw Rehmannia root 1 sheng (washed; use plump specimens), ginger (peeled) 1 liang,1 liang of Astragalus (chopped), 1 liang of aged tangerine peel (soaked in hot water, white pith removed, and roasted), and 1 liang of ginseng.

Processing

Of the seven ingredients listed above, except for the chicken, chop each into pieces the size of a sesame seed or mung bean. Mix them evenly, place the mixture inside the chicken’s abdomen, and sew it closed. Place the chicken in a silver or stone container, cover it with a fresh cloth, and steam it in a steamer. On one side of the steamer, place a bowl containing rice and half a bowl of water; cover both with a lid to prevent air from entering. Steam until the rice and chicken are thoroughly tender. Remove the mixture, dry it separately, then pound and sift it into a powder.

Instructions for Use

Take 1 qian bi per dose, mixed with rice water, three times daily. Chop the chicken into pieces, mix with a little salt, and allow the patient to eat as much as they wish, stopping only when full. After a while, cover the patient with thick clothing and blankets to induce sweating. Once profuse sweating occurs, apply a paste made from roasted and ground oyster shells to the affected areas.
