Drug Formulation

Black Snake (measured 7 cun below the neck; soaked in wine overnight; skin and bones removed; roasted until yellow) 1 qian; Indigo Powder 2 qian; Scorpion Tails 10 pieces (roasted); Ox Bile 0.5 qian; Borax 0.5 qian; Borneol 0.5 qian; Mercury Granules 0.5 qian; Pearl Powder 0.5 qian; Musk 1 fen;10 pieces of gold leaf, 10 pieces of silver leaf, black snake tail (soaked in wine overnight, skin and bones removed, roasted until yellow) 1 qian, snake yellow (heated until red, soaked in rice vinegar, then calcined; repeat this process three times) 1 qian,Beijing ink (burned until all smoke has dissipated) 1 qian, powdered Tiannanxing (soaked in ginger juice) 1 qian, powdered Banxia (soaked in ginger juice overnight) 1 qian.

Processing

First, grind the ox bile, musk, borax, borneol, and gold and silver foil into a very fine, uniform powder. Next, add the mercury granules and grind again. Pound the remaining herbs into a fine powder, sift them, and mix all ingredients together until thoroughly blended.

For infants and young children suffering from acute or chronic convulsions, weakness and twitching of the hands and feet, staring eyes, and twisting of the mouth and eyes.

Instructions for Use

For each dose, infants take half a zi, half-year-olds take 1 zi, 1–2-year-olds take half a qian, and 2–3-year-olds take 1 qian; adjust the dosage as appropriate. Administer with gold and silver mint decoction. If convulsions cease after one dose, immediately administer 2–3 doses of Guanyin Powder for Regulating Stomach Qi; if the child experiences repeated episodes of labored breathing and convulsions, administer 2–3 doses of Chicken-Tongue Fragrance Powder.
