Drug Formulation

Angelica sinensis (preferably sweet-tasting; do not use the pungent variety; lightly soak in wine and rinse), Fangfeng (remove the root tip; those from Zizhou and Shunde are best), Chuanxiong (preferably authentic “sparrow’s brain” variety, which feels heavy in the hand; do not use other varieties of Chuanxiong),Qianghuo (best when the bark is black, the root is light, and it has a bamboo-joint-like pattern), Jinmao Gouji (remove the hairs from fresh specimens, soak until soft, then slice), and Duhuo (best when shaped like Danggui, specifically the Sichuan variety)—each in equal parts.

Processing

Dry the ingredients in the sun and grind them into an extremely fine powder; take 4 jin of fresh Dafengzi, remove the shells (discard them), and pound the flesh until it becomes a paste. Add the aforementioned powder and mix thoroughly. Pound aged rice into a paste, mix it with the medicine, and form into pills the size of a Paulownia seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 50 to 70 pills per dose. If the condition is in the lower part of the body, take them on an empty stomach with decocted herbal broth; after meals, take them with clear tea. If the condition is in the upper part of the body, take them on an empty stomach with clear tea; after meals and before bedtime, take them with decocted herbal broth, 3–4 times a day.

Note

Strictly avoid foods that induce wind or agitate qi, and consume only plain congee or plain rice; sexual activity is strictly prohibited.
