Drug Formulation

10 liang of realgar, 1 liang of frankincense (oil removed), 1 liang of myrrh (oil removed), 1 liang of catechu, 1 liang of Milen Seng, 1 liang of dragon’s blood,1 qian of musk (to be added when the ointment is being prepared), 5 liang of Angelica sinensis, 5 liang of turtle shell fragments, 3 liang of aged wine, 1 liang of cinnamon bark, 1 liang of Euphorbia thunbergii seeds, 10 centipedes, 1 liang of elephant skin, 1 liang of Coptis chinensis, 5 liang of Phellodendron amurense, 5 liang of Scutellaria baicalensis, 1 liang of mugwort leaves, 1 liang of pollen, and 4 liang of honeysuckle.

Processing

First, soak the Angelica sinensis and other ingredients in 3 jin of sesame oil for half a month—5 days in summer and 10 days in autumn—then simmer until charred and strain out the residue. Add orpiment, frankincense, catechu, to-seng, and musk, and mix thoroughly to form a paste.
