Drug Formulation

5 liang of Sichuan Hu Ma, 5 liang of Sichuan Niuxi, 5 liang of Wood Apple, 5 liang of Gardenia, 5 liang of Phellodendron, 5 liang of Atractylodes, 5 liang of Tianma, 5 liang of White Tribulus, 10 liang of Acanthopanax Bark, 10 liang of Wind Vine, 10 liang of Notopterygium, 10 liang of Sophora, 10 liang of Angelica, 3 qian of Mercury-Flying Cinnabar, 3 qian of Rice (baked with bread),3 qian of musk, 1 liang of fragrant snake, 2 liang of Daizhashi (calcined with vinegar), and 40 liang of fresh, seedless pulp (this is the pulp of the Da Feng Zi fruit).

Processing

First, boil the Da Feng Zi pulp in 20 bowls of water until reduced to 2–3 bowls; strain thoroughly, place in a mortar, and pound into a paste. Grind the four ingredients—cinnabar, mercury, red ochre, and rice—together until no granules remain visible, then store in a porcelain container. Next, weigh out the correct amounts of each herbal powder, mix with the Da Feng Zi decoction, and add aged rice paste to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 3 qian at each of the Mao, Wu, and You hours, washed down with wine. For milder cases, take only 2 qian or 1 qian 5 fen. After 4–5 days, the condition may temporarily worsen, with numbness at the roots of the teeth and mental confusion; thereafter, recovery will gradually set in, the complexion will become rosy and vibrant, and the condition will never again be severe. However, strict adherence to the regimen is essential to ensure it never recurs.
