Drug Formulation

Half a liang of sulfur (finely ground), half a liang of cinnabar (finely ground), half a liang of mercury, half a liang of realgar(finely ground). First, melt the sulfur and realgar in a crucible to form a liquid; then add the mercury and cinnabar, stirring until they form granules. Next, take a porcelain box, drill a hole in the lid about the size of a millet seed, place the granules inside, and seal the box with salt clay, leaving only the hole open to allow it to dry.First, apply heat to the area 4 cun away from all four sides of the box; after one meal’s time—when all eight sides are ablaze—and the black fumes have completely dissipated, place a piece of damp paper over the hole in the box. Replace it as soon as it dries; repeat this process until 30 pieces have been used. The medicine is now ready. Allow it to cool, grind it finely, and mix it with the following ingredients): Ephedra (roots and nodes removed) 1 liang,Tianma half liang, White Aconite Root 1 fen (roasted until cracked), White Silkworm 1 fen (stir-fried until slightly yellow), Black Snake 3 fen (soaked in wine, skin and bones removed, roasted until slightly yellow), Cinnamon Bark 1 fen, dried scorpion 1 fen (lightly stir-fried), Tiannanxing 1 fen (roasted until cracked), Tianxiong 1 fen (roasted until cracked, with skin and navel removed), Duhuo 1 fen, Sichuan Aconite 1 fen (roasted until cracked, with skin and navel removed), musk 1 fen (finely ground).
