Processing
Grind the above ingredients into a coarse powder and mix thoroughly with honey. Take a sand box with a base diameter of 6 cun and a depth of 6 cun. First, spread a single layer of the honey-mixed herbs on the bottom of the box, about 1.5 cun thick. Cover this with a single layer of tangerine leaves, ensuring the herbs are completely covered. Next, split the cinnabar into several pieces, roll them in honey, wrap them in Kunlun paper, and arrange them on top of the tangerine leaves. Cover the cinnabar completely with another layer of tangerine leaves. Then fill the box completely with the honey-mixed herbs, seal it tightly, and use vinegar-mixed cinnabar clay to seal the seams. Secure it firmly with iron wire tied in a cross pattern. Wrap the box in salt-clay-soaked paper, with a layer of rehmannia and dragon dung on top, approximately 2 fen thick, let it air-dry in the shade, place it flat on the ground, and use 5 sheng of vinegar-soaked charcoal to form a (mound??), covering the cinnabar box—this is called the Laojun (mound??). Calcine it with 30 jin of yin-yang charcoal, until approximately 2–3 jin of embers remain. Remove the charcoal, cover the entire mound with one dan of raw earth, and leave it overnight. Open the (earth mound??), discard the herbs inside the box, blow away the paper ash from the cinnabar, and grind it finely in a mortar. Form into pills using rice paste; for every 1 liang of cinnabar, make 60–70 pills.
