Drug Formulation

Human hair (from one’s own head or from a father and son who share the same hair root, as well as from young men and women; remove any yellowish or whitish strands; wash 2–3 times with lye water; then crush 4 liang of large soapberries, boil in water, and rinse thoroughly—ensuring all oil and grease are removed; tear the hair into small pieces and sun-dry; for every 1 jin of clean hair, use 4 liang of Sichuan pepper;remove the stems and seeds; in a large pot, layer the hair and Sichuan pepper alternately, mixing well. Cover with a medium-sized pot lid, seal tightly with salt mud to prevent air leakage, and calcine over a slow fire fueled by mulberry wood for three sticks of incense. Remove from the fire, allow to cool, then take out and grind into a fine powder in a draft-free area) 4 liang; He Shou Wu (steamed nine times and sun-dried nine times with black beans; remove the beans and retain only the pure powder) 1 jin;black sesame seeds (steamed and sun-dried nine times each; take the pure powder) 8 liang, Polygonum multiflorum (roasted; take the pure powder) 4 liang, raw Rehmannia root (from Huaiqing, sinking in water; soaked in wine and pounded into a paste) 8 liang, prepared Rehmannia root (soaked in wine and pounded into a paste) 8 liang, mulberry fruit (extract the pure juice and boil into a paste) 4 liang,Nuzhen fruit 4 liang, Huanliancao (extract pure juice and boil into a paste) 4 liang, walnut meat (ground into a paste) 2 liang, date pulp (ground into a paste) 2 liang, Sophora japonica pods (stored in ox gallbladder for 100 days) 4 liang.

Processing

Mix the powdered herbs with the various pastes until uniform, add 1 jin of refined honey to form the mixture, and pound in a stone mortar for over a thousand strokes until the mixture forms pellets the size of a tung tree seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 60 pills per dose on an empty stomach, washed down with 2–3 cups of warm He Shou Wu-infused wine, three times daily.
