Drug Formulation

1 liang of arsenic, half a liang of flame-refined arsenic (grind the above two ingredients together into a fine powder; apply concentrated ink to paper, let it dry, and wrap it into 10 bundles; first, use 3 jin of well-burned charcoal to heat a new crucible until it glows red.First place one bundle of the mixture into the crucible; wait until the smoke has dissipated, then add another bundle. Continue in this manner until all 10 bundles have been added and the mixture is exhausted. Observe the crucible: if the arsenic has been refined into a liquid, pour it into a dish, allow it to cool, and grind it into a fine powder. 1 liang of cold water stone (calcined over a fire, allowed to cool, and ground into a fine powder), 1 liang of white lead (ground into a fine powder).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with water to form pills the size of a chicken’s head. Dry them thoroughly in the midday sun, then place them back into the crucible. Cover the opening with a round tile and heat with 5 jin of well-burned charcoal until the contents glow red-hot. Pour the mixture into a dish—it will have a jade-like color—and let it cool before storing it in a porcelain box.

Instructions for Use

Take 1 or 2 pills per dose. For deficiency-cold, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and dysentery with red or white discharge, take with rice water; for women with chronic uterine cold, red or white leukorrhea, and cramping pain in the abdomen and flanks, take with cold vinegar water on an empty stomach.
