Drug Formulation

480 liang of Scutellaria baicalensis, 320 liang of Forsythia suspensa, 160 liang of Pinellia ternata, 160 liang of Angelica dahurica, 48 liang of wintergreen oil, 96 liang of menthol, 192 liang of borneol, 1,856 liang of gasoline, 656 liang of rubber, 80 liang of lanolin, 640 liang of zinc oxide, 32 liang of petroleum jelly, and 544 liang of rosin.

Processing

Take the four ingredients from Scutellaria baicalensis to Angelica dahurica and grind them together into No. 3 coarse powder; grind the rosin into a fine powder;and rubber into thin sheets. Take the coarse powder of the four ingredients (including Scutellaria baicalensis), extract them using 5 times their volume of 90% ethanol via the percolation method, recover the ethanol from the filtrate, and concentrate it into a thick paste of approximately 300 liang. Place the rubber sheets in gasoline, stir immediately for 30 minutes, then seal and soak for 18–36 hours;Remove and place in a mixing tank; stir for 3 hours. Add wintergreen oil, lanolin, and petroleum jelly, and stir for 1 hour. Add zinc oxide and continue stirring for 1 hour; then add rosin and stir for 2 hours. Add menthol, borneol, and the concentrated paste containing Scutellaria baicalensis and the other ingredients. After adding all medicinal ingredients, continue stirring for 2 hours until completely dissolved and uniformly mixed.Transfer the mixture to a filter press, filter through an 80–100-mesh copper screen, pour into barrels, seal them, and let stand for 3–7 days; then apply the ointment to make medicated plasters.
