Half a liang of cinnabar (refined and ground extremely fine), 2.5 liang of yellow丹 (roasted until black), 7 qian of frankincense (ground with fresh water and dried in a paper box placed on a tile), 10 large wood turtle seeds (burned until black, husks removed), 4 qian of white gum resin (unadulterated), 3 liang of arsenic trioxide,3 liang of sodium carbonate (grind together; place in a porcelain box, seal the opening tightly with cinnabar, then reinforce with salt mud and paper fibers; air-dry in the shade; burn over a charcoal fire until completely red-hot; allow to cool before retrieving the medicine; the resulting substance resembles snow-white jade and is called “Jade Stump of the Jade Forest.” Among all the medicines in this formula, only this one possesses such extraordinary properties; alchemists refer to it as the principle of “using arsenic without actually using arsenic”—and this is indeed the case.Use 1 liang 6 qian per batch), croton seeds (select large ones; remove the skin and inner membrane; extract the oil) 70 seeds, and apricot kernels (large ones; remove the skin and tip; roast; grind) 70 kernels.
