Drug Formulation

Danmu and cinnabar (1 jin), 50 pieces of genuine gold leaf.

Processing

Extract mercury from 1 jin of cinnabar; place the Danmu in a crucible, lay the mercury over the Danmu, and cover with 50 pieces of genuine gold leaf. Maintain the fire in a quiet room, facing northeast in the morning and southwest in the evening; open the crucible after one month. If the Danmu appears scorched by the fire, bathe it in a concentrated decoction of Chenxiang water.After one year, the elixir will be complete, resembling grain sprouts or flowers and fruits. Cut it off with silver scissors, place it inside a large radish, and steam it for one fu; stop when the radish turns deep black. Remove it, grind it into a fine powder with a jade pestle, and form it into pills using tree honey. The pills should be the size of millet seeds.

Instructions for Use

Take as directed above with the decoction. At dawn, take one pill, rub it in your hands until warm, and place it in your mouth. The dose may be increased to 10 pills, or you may use pills made with date paste, taken with well water or ginseng-date decoction.

Note

Pregnant women must not take this. Abstain from all sensual desires, avoid the “five pungent foods,” and do not eat chicken, fish, garlic, or stale, foul-smelling foods.
