Drug Formulation

2 liang of Aconite, 2 liang of Aconite Root (both used raw), 2 liang of Angelica sinensis, 1 liang of Notopterygium, 1 liang of Asarum, 1 liang of Cinnamon Bark, 1 liang of Saposhnikovia (with the root tip removed), 1 liang of Atractylodes macrocephala, 1 liang of Sichuan pepper, 1 liang of Evodia, and 1 jin of pork lard (preferably from the 12th lunar month; camel fat is even better if available; remove the fat membrane, melt it by simmering, strain out the residue, and let it cool).

Processing

Finely chop the ingredients into pieces the size of soybeans. Soak them lightly in rice vinegar overnight. Melt the pork fat over low heat, strain out the residue, and add the herbs. Simmer over low heat until the Aconite Root turns yellow; the ointment is then ready. Store in a porcelain jar.

Instructions for Use

Patients should apply the ointment frequently by rubbing it in; it is advisable to wrap it in cloth.
