Drug Formulation

White Pharbitis (finely ground), 1 liang; Rhubarb, 1 liang; Gallnut, 1 liang; Dried Lotus Stamen, 1 liang; Red Alum, 5 qian (refined red using soapberry); Coptis, 3 qian; Angelica, 5 qian; Myrrh, 1 qian; Frankincense, 1 qian (roasted with bamboo leaves).

Instructions for Use

Begin with a dose of 5 fen; increase to 6 fen for the second dose, 7 fen for the third, 8 fen for the fourth, and 9 fen for the fifth and final dose. Each morning, take half a bowl of broth made from the meat of a young pig’s teeth, mixed with one small zhong of ash-free wine.

Note

Avoid pork intestines and tripe, donkey meat, and distilled spirits.
