Processing

Slice the above herbs. Place them in a large copper pot with 200 liang of sesame oil and steep for 7 days and nights. Then add 21 segments each of peach, willow, mulberry, and locust branches—each cut into 21 segments, each segment about one cun long—and simmer over low heat until the mixture turns black and charred. Strain out the residue, wipe the pot clean, and strain the mixture back into the pot through fine silk; ensure it is thoroughly clean for best results. Continue simmering over alternating high and low heat until a drop of oil forms a bead when touched by water; the goal is to obtain approximately 160 liang of pure oil.Remove from heat and add 80 liang of high-quality “Feidan.” Hold a locust wood stick in one hand and add the Feidan with the other, stirring continuously until it forms a paste. Then add the following ingredients: frankincense and myrrh, 8 qian each (de-oiled); dragon’s blood and realgar, 5 qian each. Grind these four ingredients separately.Add these first and stir until well blended. Then add the following ingredients: 5 qian each of Wood Fragrance, Agarwood, Sandalwood, Aquilaria, and Liquidambar; and 1 qian each of Clove, Musk, Patchouli, Pearl, and Borneol. Add these 10 ingredients gradually, stirring constantly to ensure uniformity. Finally, add 5 qian of Camphor to form a paste. Store for future use.
