Processing

Use 1 jin of genuine sesame oil. First, add Gan Sui, Nan Xing, and Ban Xia; boil until charred, then remove. Next, add Jian Can; third, add Da Ji and Ma Huang; fourth, add Bai Jie Zi; fifth, add Teng Huang. Boil each ingredient until charred in sequence, removing them one after another;sixth, add Puxiao and boil until it no longer pops. Filter the oil through silk cloth, then return it to the pot and bring to a rolling boil. Slowly add the thoroughly roasted Dongdan, stirring constantly as it boils. The amount of Dongdan added should be adjusted according to the desired consistency of the ointment. In summer, it should be slightly firmer; in winter, slightly softer. Once the ointment is ready, pour it into a basin of water while still hot and stir vigorously several dozen times to remove the heat toxicity. It can then be spread and applied; it should be thick, not thin.
