Drug Formulation

1 black-boned, white-feathered chicken (male or female, choose a tender, mature bird; stun it, soak it, pluck the feathers, split the flanks with a bamboo knife, remove the gizzard and liver, clean out impurities, retain the gallbladder, and remove intestinal residue, then return it to the abdomen), cuttlefish bone (soaked in children’s urine, sun-dried into powder, lightly roasted until yellow, and sifted to remove impurities) 4 liang,Reed shoots (tips removed, washed in wine, sliced) 1 liang, abalone (thinly sliced) 4 liang.

Processing

Place the above three ingredients into the chicken’s abdomen. Add 2 bowls each of aged wine and children’s urine, along with several bowls of water, to a clay pot. Simmer in a slow, continuous process, adding liquid as needed, until the mixture is completely reduced and the liquid has evaporated. Pound the mixture into a paste and dry it thoroughly. Roast the cuttlefish bone in clarified butter, then grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Mix the powder with dried Chinese yam powder to form a paste, and roll into pills the size of a paulownia seed.
