Formulas Name : Elixir for Hidden Internal Heat

Chinese Name : 阴伏紧灵丹

Drug Formulation

4 liang of sulfur (ground), 1 sheng of salt flowers.

Source

*Shenghui*, Volume 95.

Processing

First, spread half a sheng of salt flowers in a flat-bottomed cauldron; next, layer the ground sulfur on top; then cover it with the remaining salt. Seal the opening with damp paper. Maintain a gentle boil resembling fish eyes, for seven days and seven nights, ensuring the fire never goes out. Add water as it evaporates. Open the pot occasionally to stir the mixture, preventing it from sticking to the bottom of the pot. When the seven days are up and the mixture has dried completely, transfer it to a well-sealed porcelain jar and calcine until it turns bright red. Allow it to cool, then rinse with hot water to remove the salt taste. Take the sulfur, dry it in the sun, grind it into a fine powder, and mix it with date pulp to form pills the size of a paulownia seed.
