Drug Formulation

Aconite Root 10 liang (select large specimens; soak in wine for 7 days; then dig a pit in the ground; use half a scale of charcoal to heat the pit until it glows red; quickly remove the charcoal and clean the pit; pour 2 sheng of vinegar into the pit and wait for it to dry; while still hot, place the Aconite Root inside; cover with a basin and pile earth around it; remove after one night, and remove the skin and navel), Magnetite (quenched in vinegar 7 times—the more times, the better) 2 liang,Cinnabar (finely ground) 2 liang, Alisma (washed, soaked in wine overnight, then roasted) 2 liang, Achyranthes (stems removed, soaked in wine, then oven-dried) 2 liang, Dendrobium (roots removed, then roasted) 2 liang,Cistanche (peeled, soaked in wine overnight, and roasted dry) 2 liang, Morinda (with a central vein) 2 liang, Fennel (roasted) 1 liang, Cinnamon Bark (with coarse bark removed) 1 liang, Chinese chive seeds (lightly roasted) 5 liang,Dodder Seed (soaked in wine for one fu-shi, steamed, sun-dried, pounded, sifted into a fine powder, and light, floating particles removed) 5 liang, Oyster Shell (calcined, ground into powder) 3 liang, Purple-tipped Flower (if unavailable, substitute with Eupatorium) 3 liang,Deer antler (use antlers with the tip bone still attached; first singe to remove all hair until clean; cut into pieces approximately 3 cun in length; soak in wine for 1 fu; roast over low heat until crisp) half liang, White dragon bone 1 jin (select the type that sticks to the tongue; grind finely into a powder; wash with water three times; dry in the sun; steam with 1 dou of black beans for 1 fu; place in a silk-lined bag; dry in the sun).

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder; mix with equal parts refined wine and honey to form pills the size of a paulownia seed.
