Astragalus Decoction for Tonifying Deficiency,For various conditions of deficiency and insufficiency, including acute lower abdominal pain, distension in the flanks (or lower abdomen), a sensation of fullness below the navel, restlessness and palpitations in the chest, a sallow and haggard complexion, dry lips and mouth, weakness and heaviness of the body, chest fullness and shortness of breath, stiffness and pain in the lower back, aching in the bones and muscles, shortness of breath and fatigue upon movement, and inability to eat or drink—whether due to excessive physical exertion or failure to recover after illness.

Drug Formulation

3 liang of ginseng (root tip removed), 3 liang of angelica root (root tip removed), 3 liang of white atractylodes, 3 liang of astragalus, 3 liang of cinnamon bark (coarse outer bark removed), 3 liang of licorice (roasted), and 6 liang of white peony root.

Instructions for Use

Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhan of water, 3 slices of fresh ginger, and 1 jujube. Decoct together until reduced to 7 fen. Strain and take warm before meals, three times daily.
