Duanchangcao

Duanchangcao is the name of a traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It refers to *Hupentheca*, a plant in the genus *Hupentheca* of the family Loganiaceae; the roots, leaves, and whole plant are used medicinally.Duanchangcao has a bitter and pungent taste and a warm nature. It is effective in expelling toxins, dispersing blood stasis, relieving pain, killing parasites, and alleviating itching. When used externally, it can treat skin eczema, tinea corporis, tinea pedis, contusions, fractures, hemorrhoids, boils, and leprosy. In addition, Duanchangcao can be used to control the “Four Pests,” kill maggots, and eliminate mosquito larvae.

Eshan

Eshan is the name of a traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It is the dried root of Anthriscus sylvestris (L.) Hoffm., a plant belonging to the genus Anthriscus in the Apiaceae family.It is distributed in Liaoning, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Xinjiang, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan, and other regions. It has the effects of tonifying qi and strengthening the spleen, as well as promoting blood circulation and relieving pain. It is primarily used to treat spleen deficiency with abdominal distension, fatigue and poor appetite, lung deficiency with coughing and wheezing, general weakness with spontaneous sweating, frequent nocturnal urination in the elderly, qi deficiency with edema, lumbago due to overwork, headaches, dysmenorrhea, and bruises and swelling from falls or blows.

Fern Shoots

Fern shoots, a name in traditional Chinese medicine. These are the tender leaves of Pteridium revolutum (BI.) Nakai, a plant belonging to the genus Pteridium in the family Polypodiaceae. They have the effects of clearing heat, draining dampness, stopping bleeding, regulating qi, and resolving phlegm. They are used to treat common cold with fever, jaundice, dysentery, leukorrhea, dysphagia, hemoptysis due to pulmonary tuberculosis, rectal bleeding, and rheumatic arthralgia.

Barley Malt

Malt, a name in traditional Chinese medicine. It is produced by germinating and drying the mature fruits of Hordeum vulgare L., a plant of the genus Hordeum in the Poaceae family. It has the effects of regulating qi and aiding digestion, strengthening the spleen and stimulating appetite, and reducing lactation and relieving distension. It is primarily used for undigested food stagnation, epigastric and abdominal distension and pain, spleen deficiency with poor appetite, stagnant breast milk, breast distension and pain, weaning in women, liver qi stagnation with costal pain, and liver-stomach qi pain.
