Instructions for Use

Use 3 jin of lard and simmer it over an open hearth facing east. Simmer until the mixture rises and falls three times; when the ointment is ready, strain out the residue. For deep, large wounds, apply only to the edges; do not attempt to close the wound yet. For shallow, small wounds, apply the ointment over the entire area to promote healing, stop bleeding, and relieve pain. It may also be taken orally with wine in doses the size of an apricot kernel.
