Drug Formulation
4 liang of calamine (light and free of impurities; that resembling sheep’s brain is best.Calcine and quench five times with Sanhuang Decoction; when it becomes a fine, powder-like substance, use 1 liang 3 qian), Yellow丹 (sifted to remove impurities) 9 qian 7 fen, Sichuan Coptis 1 liang (remove hairs, slice, soak in a child’s urine overnight, sun-dry, and take the top-quality powder—3 qian 4 fen), Angelica root (washed with water, sun-dried) 7 fen 4 li, Cinnabar (sifted) 5 fen, Moonstone 5 fen, White Clove(select straight, robust ones as male; washed in water to remove cinnabar) 3 fen 4 li, Mercury Oxide (genuine) 3 fen 4 li, Sea Squid (remove skin, soak in water to remove saltiness, sun-dry, and grind into a fine powder) 3 fen 4 li, Realgar(simmered in a double boiler to collect the white foam from the rim of the bowl) 3 fen 4 li, bear bile 1 qian (roasted with bamboo leaves, do not burn), frankincense (roasted) 1 fen 7 li, myrrh (roasted) 1 fen 7 li, musk 1 fen 7 li, camphor 1 fen 7 li, pearl 5 fen, amber 5 fen.

Processing
Grind each of the above ingredients (Shi Yu) into a fine powder as fine as dust. Add 4 liang of honey, bring to a rolling boil several times to skim off the foam, then simmer until fully cooked. Filter through silk to obtain 3 liang of liquid. Transfer to a bowl and simmer over a double boiler using alternating high and low heat, stirring continuously with a willow twig until the mixture turns purple, drips like pearls when dropped, does not stick to your fingers when rolled into a ball, and forms threads when the honey is stretched—these are the signs of readiness. Immediately remove from the heat, gradually add the mineral powders, stir evenly, and form into pills.If the honey is mature, there is no need to sun-dry it; if it is fresh, spread it on bamboo leaves to dry in the sun. Coat the pills with gold leaf; they should be the size of mung beans.
