Drug Formulation

5 qian of Qin Jiao, 5 qian of San Leng, 5 qian of Huang Bai, 5 qian of E Zhu, 5 qian of Centipede, 3 qian of Dang Gui, 3 qian of Da Huang, 2 jin 4 liang of genuine sesame oil, 1 jin 2 liang of Huang Dan (washed with water and stir-fried until purple), 14 pieces of Sichuan Tortoise Shell, 14 whole scorpions, and 7 Mu Bie Zi.

Processing

Place the herbs in the oil and simmer until the oil turns yellow; strain out the residue, mash it into a paste, and set aside. Once the oil has cooled, add the real cinnabar and simmer over alternating low and high heat, stirring constantly with a locust or willow twig. When black smoke rises and a drop of water forms a bead, test the consistency with your hand; only then should you remove it from the heat. Next, add the four finely ground herbs and incorporate the mashed coarse residue into the mixture.1 liang of genuine asafoetida, 5 qian of frankincense, 5 qian of myrrh, 1 qian of musk, and 3 qian of pi xiao (ground into a fine powder); mix thoroughly and store in a porcelain container.

Instructions for Use

To use, dissolve the mixture by sitting it in water; do not melt it over a fire. Apply this medicine to the affected area using dog skin as a poultice; each poultice should weigh 7 qian. After 3 days, the fever will subside; after 7 days, mild abdominal pain may be felt; and after 10 days, the passage of pus and blood in the stool serves as confirmation of its efficacy.

Note

Avoid raw, cold, fishy, meaty, and aggravating foods for 100 days.
