Drug Formulation

6 liang of Snake-Containing Stone, 6 liang of Daizhashi (store the above in a silver pot; heat until red-hot over a charcoal fire; quench in aged rice vinegar; the finer particles will sink to the bottom of the vinegar, while the coarser ones should be skimmed off, calcined again, and quenched again until fully processed; grind into an extremely fine powder), 4 liang of Large Southern Star (thoroughly boiled in ginger juice), 5 qian of White Aconite, 1 qian 5 fen of Musk,Cinnabar 5 qian (as a coating), gold and silver foil in any amount (also used as a coating).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. At noon on the Dragon Boat Festival, place glutinous rice dumplings in a mortar and pound them into a paste, then shape into pills the size of a water caltrop. Dry them over low heat, store in a earthenware jar, and seal tightly to prevent air from escaping.

Instructions for Use

Take one slice of ginger, one clump of peppermint, seven bamboo leaves, and one clump of lampwick as a vehicle for administration.

Note

This formula acts solely to calm the mind and dispel phlegm; however, as it has a purgative effect, it should not be administered hastily during widespread outbreaks of smallpox or measles.
