Drug Formulation
Phellodendron bark (stir-fried with honey until brown) 3 liang, Anemarrhena rhizome (soaked in breast milk, then stir-fried) 3 liang, Turtle shell (roasted with ghee) 3 liang, Huai Rehmannia root (washed with wine) 5 liang,Achyranthes root (washed with wine) 1.5 liang, Ophiopogon tuber (core removed) 1.5 liang, Cistanche stem (washed with wine) 1.5 liang, Tiger leg bone (roasted with fine wine) 1.5 liang, Huai yam 1.5 liang, Poria sclerotium (core removed) 1.5 liang, Astragalus root (honey-roasted) 1.5 liang, Eucommia bark (coarse bark removed, stir-fried with fine wine until fibers break) 2 liang,Goji berries (preferably from Ganzhou) 2 liang, Polygonum multiflorum (peeled with a bamboo scraper) 2 liang, Ginseng (root base removed) 2 liang, Angelica sinensis root (washed with wine) 1 liang,Asparagus root (with core removed) 1 liang, Schisandra berries (with stems and seeds removed) 1 liang, Huai Rehmannia root (washed with wine) 1 liang, White peony root (stir-fried with wine) 2 liang (use only 1 liang during the winter months), Placenta 1 unit (also known as “chaos skin,” which is the modern-day afterbirth; it is best to use that from a first-time birth. If none is available, the placenta from a healthy, vigorous woman may also be used.Take one set, suspend it with a string in fast-flowing water, and let it float for one day and one night to remove impurities and blood threads; then retrieve it. Next, use about one bowl of clean rice-washing water and simmer it in a small pot over low heat until it comes to a boil once; remove it without allowing the steam to escape.
