Drug Formulation
1 qian of white rhinoceros horn, 1 qian of ephedra (knots removed), 1 qian of mountain arisaema, 1 qian of black alum, 1 qian of dragon’s blood, 1 qian of licorice, and 8 fen of realgar.

Processing
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Use old ginger juice to form pills the size of a jujube pit. Take pitted red dates, fill them with the medicine, wrap them in 15 layers of thin paper, and roast them in an earthenware pot until the smoke has completely dissipated. Remove them, discard the date pulp, and for each 1 qian of the medicine, add 1 fen of borneol and half a fen of musk, then grind them into a very fine powder. Store in a porcelain jar.

Instructions for Use
To use, dip a horn hairpin in sesame oil, apply the mixture to the outer corner of the eye, and apply it. For mild cases, apply only to the outer corner of the eye; for severe cases, also blow a small amount into the nose. Men should start with the left side, women with the right; the method for blowing and applying is the same.For severe cases, first blow into the nose, then apply to the eyes. After application, sit with legs drawn up, cover yourself with a blanket up to the neck, and keep warm for half an incense stick’s duration; you should then break a sweat and the pathogen will be expelled. If no sweat appears, or if the sweat does not reach the waist, the condition is incurable.
Note
Avoid raw and cold foods, wheat-based foods, fishy smells, and emotional disturbances.
