Drug Formulation

32 thorn needles (from multi-year-old plants with curved hooks), 40 raw soybeans (unroasted), 3 strips of crimson silk (each 1 cun wide), and 3 clumps of tangled hair (each about the size of a chicken’s egg).

Processing

Divide the ingredients into three portions. For each portion, wrap the thorns and soybeans in a piece of crimson silk; then wrap the crimson silk tightly with one ball of hair until it is securely bound. Burn each portion over charcoal until all smoke has dissipated.

Instructions for Use

First, grind two clumps into a fine powder and mix with half a qian of warm wine to form a paste. Wait until the edges of the sore feel soft; at that point, it is cured. If there is no improvement after half a day, take another clump; it will surely cure the condition. After recovery, avoid any aggravating factors; if exposed to them, 3–5 red-black pus-filled sores will form. If no aggravating factors are present, the condition should resolve in 7–8 days; do not take this lightly.
