Drug Formulation

Chuanwu (raw, with skin and tip removed) 1 liang, Tianma 1 liang, Fangfeng 1 liang, Dried Ginger 1 liang, Qianghuo 1 liang, Licorice (raw) 1 liang, Pinellia (washed) half a liang, Tiannansheng (raw) half a liang.

Soak the steamed buns in the broth, then knead them into pills.

Benefits

Effective for headaches, common cold with nasal congestion, all types of headaches, and unilateral or bilateral headaches; also treats phlegm and fluid retention in the epigastric region, as well as damage to the spleen and stomach caused by improper diet.

Instructions for Use

Take 3 cakes per dose, chewing them thoroughly and washing them down with Schizonepeta or scallion tea.One variation includes Chuanxiong but omits Qianghuo; mix with ginger juice to form cakes, air-dry for 1–2 days, then sun-dry before taking; the number of cakes may be increased as desired. For severe headaches, refer to the Chuanxiong Xin Decoction formula. If, in the early stages of cold damage, the condition has resolved through sweating but a headache persists, take the cakes with a concentrated decoction of scallion whites and ginger.
