Drug Formulation

1 liang of Lithospermum root, 5 qian of rhubarb, 5 qian of Angelica root, 3 qian of safflower (one version uses honeysuckle), 3 qian of licorice, 4 liang of sesame oil (soak the above herbs overnight, boil for 10 boils, strain out the residue, add 5 qian of yellow beeswax and 5 qian of white beeswax to thicken the paste; once slightly cooled, mix in the following ingredients), 2 qian of dragon’s blood,1 qian of frankincense, 1 qian of myrrh (oil removed from both), 1 qian of pearl, 1 qian of borax (finely ground; mix these five ingredients into the paste and stir well. One variant includes 1 qian of ox bile).
