Drug Formulation

10 good dried persimmons (caps removed, finely chopped), 1 liang of agarwood (pounded into a fine powder; soak the agarwood and persimmons in 3 sheng of fine wine for two fú; transfer to a silver vessel and simmer over alternating high and low heat until reduced to a paste; grind in a mortar until paste-like, then mix in the remaining herbs),4 liang of Yu Yuliang (the purple variety; burn until completely red, quench ten times in vinegar, pound into a fine powder, and mix into the other ingredients), 1 liang of Atractylodes macrocephala,Eucommia fruit 1 liang (soak in hot water overnight; remove any floating pieces; roast over low heat), Sichuan aconite root 1 liang (soak in wine overnight; roast until cracked; remove the skin and pith), dried ginger half a liang (roasted), earthworms 2 liang (crush; remove soil; roast on a new tile over low heat until yellow), aged tangerine peel (white pith removed) 1 liang.

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix with the ointment prepared earlier until well combined, place in a mortar, and pound 1,000–2,000 times. Remove the mixture and shape into pills the size of a paulownia seed.

Instructions for Use

Take 10 to 15 pills per dose, washed down with warm wine; taking them with vinegar-flavored broth is also acceptable. If the patient suffers from extreme fatigue, lack of strength, and a complete loss of appetite, take the pills with porridge or broth on an empty stomach or before meals.
