Ming-style Realgar 2 liang, Orpiment 2 qian, 1 block of tofu (4 cun thick, 4 cun square or round).

Source

From *Comprehensive Treatise on Smallpox and Measles*, Volume 4.

Benefits

Smallpox and carbuncles.

Instructions for Use

Hollow out a hole in the tofu, about 1 cun deep. First place the female realgar at the bottom of the hole, then add the male realgar on top of it. Plug the opening with tofu; if there are any gaps, seal them with a mixture of white lime and flour to prevent air from escaping.Place it in a large bowl, set the bowl in a pot, and simmer over alternating low and high heat for one day, until the tofu is completely dried out. Allow it to cool before removing. After processing the two types of orpiment, discard the female orpiment and use only the male orpiment. Store it in a porcelain jar, sealing the exterior tightly with beeswax to prevent air from escaping. When applying it to smallpox or carbuncles, mix it with cock’s comb blood and yellow wine to form a thin paste.
