Drug Formulation

Castor beans (husked, kernels only) 2 liang; Coptis (stems removed, chopped into bean-sized pieces) 1 liang.

From *Yang’s Family Prescriptions*, Volume 2.

Processing

Place the ingredients in a silver vessel with 1 large bowl of water and simmer over low heat; add water as it evaporates. Simmer for 3 days and 2 nights. Remove from heat, discard the Coptis, and use only the castor beans. Air-dry them away from direct sunlight, then use a bamboo knife to cut each castor bean into 4 pieces.

Instructions for Use

Take 20 pieces per dose (equivalent to 5 castor beans) after meals, washed down with Schizonepeta Decoction, twice daily.

Note

Those taking castor seeds must avoid beans for the rest of their lives; if this rule is violated, abdominal distension will result, leading to death.
