Drug Formulation

1 liang of sweet shepherd’s purse (washed thoroughly under running water, simmered over low heat, and pounded until fine), half a liang of mountain apricot kernels (soaked in hot water and peeled), and 2 qian of salt crystals.

The formula is from *Shenghui* (Vol. 36); the name appears in *Shengji Zonglu* (Vol. 115).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, then add 1 qian of lard from a pig slaughtered in the twelfth lunar month, mix and pound until it becomes a paste, adjust the consistency to the desired firmness, and roll into pills the size of a jujube pit.

Instructions for Use

Take 1 pill at a time, wrap it in cotton, and insert it into the ear; change it once every 2 days. In the first 2–3 days after application, ear pain, discharge of foul fluid, and restlessness in the limbs may occur; do not be alarmed by these symptoms.
