Drug Formulation

200 ancient copper coins, 1 liang of frankincense (finely ground), 1 liang of myrrh (finely ground).

Processing

First, string the copper coins together with copper wire. Using fresh mulberry wood as fuel, heat the coins until they turn red-hot, then quench them in one large bowl of rice vinegar. Repeat this process of heating and quenching 70–80 times. Collect the copper rust flakes from the bottom of the bowl, wash away the charcoal ash with vinegar, and store the mixture in a porcelain jar.

Instructions for Use

To prepare, take one black rooster, boil it in clean water until cooked, remove the meat and use only the bones. Roast the bones in vinegar until crisp, then grind them into a fine powder. Add powdered frankincense and myrrh, along with the copper filings (ground extremely fine), and mix thoroughly. Take a strand of hair from the crown of the patient’s head, burn it to ash, and mix 2 fen 5 li of this ash with the prepared powder. Mix with good wine to form a single dose; if the patient vomits, administer another dose. Discontinue use once the pain subsides.

Note

Avoid eating water chestnuts for the rest of one’s life.
