Formulas Name : Five-Bean Decoction

Chinese Name : 五豆汤

Drug Formulation

5 sheng of black beans, 5 sheng of yellow beans, 5 sheng of mung beans, 5 sheng of green peas, 5 sheng of adzuki beans, 1 jin of dried kudzu root, 1 jin of licorice, and half a jin of Polygonatum (all left whole, not chopped).

Instructions for Use

Add 5 dou 5 sheng of water to the ingredients and simmer in a large pot on the Laba Festival until the beans are tender. Strain out the bean liquid, let it cool completely, and store it in a large earthenware or porcelain vessel. Seal it tightly with bitter-leaf paper. Open and use during the spring and summer months. Drink as desired after consuming alcohol; if a child’s smallpox or other skin eruptions have not yet appeared, drinking this will induce their eruption.
